The processing plant is funded through a joint venture between Vital Capital and Tomosi Group. Speaking at the ground breaking and dedication ceremony, the First Lady Janet Museveni, commended Vital-Tomosi for choosing to construct the factory in the heart of the Cattle corridor in Uganda where cattle farming is part of the daily life of an ordinary person.
Cattle keeping forms the backbone of social and economic activities in much of Western, Central, Southern and North Eastern Uganda.
She was happy to note that with the construction of the milk processing plant in the region, it would help the community to transition from a peasant traditional mode of farming to a modern mechanized mode of farming.
The factory with a daily processing capacity of 50,000 litres will commence production later this year and will help provide better and stable prices for farmers.
Tomosi’s farm based in Rushere, Kiruhura district has over the last 4 years developed a large farmer network in the area, who sell their milk to the milk processors in Kampala. However, with this new plant in the region, it will help to provide a better and more stable price to the farmers along with extension services.
Odrek Rwabwogo, Tomosi group CEO emphasized the contribution of the factory to the local farmer, “ Ours is a vision of empowerment, we are committed to improving the life of an ordinary farmer by providing training in hygiene, cattle feeds, breeding programs and support through other technical services.
He concluded by stating that the dairy processing plant was phase 1 of the investment plant and phase 2 included the establishment of an abattoir in the region to process and pack beef.
