Tomosi's Farm Hosts Animal Feeds Processors From Belgium

  • Tomosi's Farm Hosts Animal Feeds Processors From Belgium

Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo, on the 3rd of February 2017, hosted animal feeds processors from the region of Flanders in Belgium at Tomosi's Farm Bwesharire.
One of Uganda's major agricultural industry's problem is the lack of supplementary feeding for animals to maintain consistent production in both dry and wet seasons of the year. Almost all the production is rain fed causing huge farmer losses and increased raw material prices in the dry seasons. The price of milk now in Rushere at the chilling Centres is above UGX1000 but the farmer still gets about UGX700 and the UGX1000 won't hold for long as the rains come in March as expected.
Producing feeds for animals will eventually sort out these highs and lows allowing farmers to negotiate prices over a long haul especially with increased processing capacity in the dairy industry. Since government largely abandoned farmers both at a production and commodity marketing level, we can only find commercial partnership with feeds manufacturers for the communities to make any headway. The Inve Belgie company is one of these key partners and we hope something good for the community can come out of these visits to the area.
